
The three sites chosen for the Cambridge Challenge will provide sustainable new communities for a total of 16,000 homes by 2021.
Here is what is planned for each site.
Southern Fringe
Location
A development on land to the South and East of Trumpington village and West of Addenbrookes Hospital will create 4,000 new homes with 1,600 of them affordable.Aim
To build a modern, high quality, vibrant and distinctive urban extension of Trumpington to complement and enhance the character of the city.
Northstowe
Location
12km North-West of Cambridge City, Northstowe will bring around 10,000 new homes to the area with 4,000 of them affordable. This new town will be supported by associated community development and major infrastructure.Aim
To provide a vibrant new community with its own distinctive identity founded on best practice urban design principles.
North West Cambridge
Location
Commonly known as the NIAB site, this development between the A303 and A1307 will bring approximately 1,800 new homes to the area of which 700 will be affordable.Aim
To create a distinctive new urban extension to Cambridge with the highest standards of design and adhering to the principles of sustainability.
