Planning Update

The three sites chosen for the Cambridge Challenge will provide sustainable new communities for a total of 16,000 homes by 2021. Below you can read a planning update on all three development sites in Cambridgeshire.

Northstowe

Northstowe’s joint promoters, Gallagher and the Homes and Communities Agency, are currently undertaking an extensive programme of work to address and respond to South Cambridgeshire District Council’s comments on the planning application, which were received in May 2008.

An amended phasing plan, housing trajectory and density plan form part of this work, which will be submitted as a revised outline planning application in the Autumn 2009.

All the Northstowe partners (HCA, Gallagher, South Cambridgeshire District Council, Cambridgeshire County Council, Cambridgeshire Horizons and Cambridgeshire Partnerships) have agreed to work closely together to ensure plans for Northstowe can continue to move forward, despite the current challenging economic climate.

It is anticipated that planning permission will be granted in Spring 2010, allowing a start on site in the Autumn, a year later than originally planned. All of Northstowe’s partners remain committed to delivering a high quality, sustainable new town for the 21st century.

Southern Fringe

All the sites on the Southern Fringe covering Trumpington Meadows, Bell School, Clay Farm and Glebe Farm have outline-planning consent. Cambridgeshire Partnerships is at the stage of negotiating the affordable housing terms of the section 106 agreements with the councils and landowners.

North West Cambridge (NIAB)

The North West Cambridge (commonly known as NIAB) site is currently going though pre application negotiations, in anticipation of gaining outline-planning consent in Summer 2009.
